Data shows that over the past thirty years, the Majority World Church has experienced some of its fastest growth in history.
This rapid growth, however, has far outpaced the availability of pastors and other leaders. If the Global Church is to flourish with health and growth over the long-term, it must have local leaders equipped and shaped for the task.
The OC scholarship program seeks to meet this great need. Many emerging leaders need financial resources to assist them in meeting the cost of their education. As in the West, the cost of higher education is beyond the means of many. In the Majority World, students face additional familial and cultural difficulties in funding their ministry training, and they often do so without the prospects of a “paying” ministry role upon graduation. In many parts of the Majority World women, in particular, face cultural barriers to ministry training and funding which limit their opportunities.
For over forty years, Overseas Council has provided funds for hundreds of seminaries around the Majority World to provide scholarships to those students whom they see as most promising but also have the greatest needs. Over the last ten years, thanks to grants and gifts from foundations, churches, and individuals, Overseas Council has been able to send nearly half a million dollars annually in scholarship funds to nearly 100 Partner schools around the world – enabling approximately 1,000 students each year to be equipped for ministry. Overseas Council has a particular focus on women leaders – dedicating over one-third of its scholarship funding for women who are called to ministry roles. Your gifts multiply as students graduate and go on to plant new churches, equip other leaders, and multiply disciples.
