Yosniel & Katiuska

Yosniel & Katiuska

Pastor Yosniel (called Yu) and Katiuska (Kati) Yu are Cuban nationals living near Havana with their two small children, Caleb and Keila. Yu serves with Sembradores (Sowers), a UWM church planter planter training project and has pastored a church with Baptista Libre (Freewill Baptist) for many years. His wife, Kati, is a medical doctor. They both have formal training in Theology and Bible.

Yu and Kati have sensed God’s call to serve as missionaries in West Africa. Since 2008, they have known of the need for pastors and doctors in remote areas populated by animistic Muslims. The country where Yu and Kati will be serving is considered a “limited access country”.Until recently the idea of Cubans leaving Cuba as missionaries was unthinkable. Yu and Kati have been waiting patiently and knew God would prepare a way. Yu and Kati now are hopeful the door is opening, and their desire to serve cross-culturally could finally become a reality.

Pastor Yu and Kati have made a two-year commitment to serve in West Africa. Their ministry will be two-fold. Yu will pastor a small existing Freewill Baptist church. He will also serve as chaplain at the clinic where Kati will work on the medical staff. They desire to introduce the Sembradores model of New Testament church planter training in neighboring countries. Their pre-field equipping will include attending UWM’s upcoming cross-cultural training in Cuba.
