Ray and Phyllis came from a strong missions church in Indiana, worked as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship staff, and then did their graduate studies at Columbia International University.  They began service with LAM in1969 and spent their first term in camp work at Roblealto and in youth ministry from their home in Heredia, Costa Rica.

In 1974, LAM sent them to Monterrey, Mexico to pioneer student ministry at the numerous universities in that city of five million. The next year they were part of the founding team for the Castillo del Rey (Castle of the King) ministry association which  planted a small congregation. Within several years it had multiplied and formed others in numerous areas of the city.

The Bedwells’ focus in their work has been discipleship, leadership training, cross-cultural missions, praise and worship, counseling, youth ministry and Bible teaching. There are now 130 Castle of the King congregations in Mexico and six in other  countries. They have also established a Christian university, five Christian day schools, and a mission agency, founded by Ray and Phyllis, which has sent more than fifty missionaries to sixteen countries and eight ethnic groups.

The Bedwell family includes daughter, Lori, also a missionary in Monterrey, son, Kirk, who lives with his family in Cape Girardeau, Missouri,  and son, Kyle, who lives with his family in Miami, FL. They have four granddaughters, four grandsons and four great grandchildren.
